Mobile PET Systems has grown to be the leading mobile provider of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging services. Its 16 Mobile PET Systems offer hospitals and other healthcare providers with cost-effective access to state-of-the-art PET technology in the US, and Europe. The Company currently provides PET services to 74 hospital and medical facilities. The Company was recently granted accreditation from the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), recognizing that Mobile PET Systems complies with rigorous national performance standards that promote quality health care delivery.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a molecular medical imaging procedure that shows abnormalities based on tissue’s metabolism of glucose. Unlike conventional “anatomic” based imaging procedures like CT, MR and ultrasound, PET provides “functional” imaging. This ability to give a direct measure of the body’s metabolic functions gives PET many advantages over other diagnostic imaging techniques. "Functional Imaging" can detect metabolic changes, which may be precursors to disease. It can monitor response to treatment, as well as eliminate the need for costly redundant testing or invasive surgical procedures.

Some Clinical Applications:

Oncology - One of PET’s most widely used applications is in the detection of cancer. Malignant tumors in general are hypermetabolic with glucose and stand out from normal tissues. PET’s unique ability to image functional processes and detect hypermetabolic activity renders it an effective noninvasive tool for detecting, staging and assessing cancer.

Cardiology - PET is an extremely valuable diagnostic tool for cardiologists. It is the most accurate noninvasive test available to detect the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD). Following coronary occlusion, a portion of the myocardium may appear to be irreversibly infarcted, demonstrating a wall motion abnormality while showing no evidence of perfusion on traditional nuclear medicine scans. This “hibernating” myocardium will show normal or hypermetabolism with glucose, indicating viability that with bypass or angioplasty could improve significantly.

Neurology - PET’s use in neurological disease continues to evolve. Because Alzheimer’s disease displays hypo metabolism of glucose in the brain’s parietal area, PET scanning depicts this brain disorder with far greater accuracy than traditional “anatomic” imaging. Many epileptic patients suffer from focal epilepsy that cannot be controlled with medication but may benefit from surgical resection of the brain. PET FDG imaging is a non-invasive and cost effective aid in predicting the prognosis and surgical planning for resection procedures. PET helps the surgeon pinpoint the surgical site.
